The Formation
of the Singapore Professional Centre
In 1968, under the auspices of The Commonwealth Foundation, the concept
and idea of the Singapore Professional Centre (SPC), was mooted and
it today represents 19 professional associations, and about 7,000
members, and is linked to 11 other professional centres in the Commonwealth,
under the umbrella organisation, The Commonwealth Association of Professional
Centres (CAPC).
Key Objectives
To promote and enhance the status of Professional
Organisations in Singapore
To be a responsible, meaningful contributor
to the community and encourage its members to contribute to the progress
and well-being of the nation
To encourage the co-operation among Member
Associations and cross-fertilization of ideas between disciplines
To represent corporate view of Member
Associations to the authorities on issues of public interest
To develop co-operation with other similar
Professional Centres overseas
Gone are the days
where job scope is confined to jobs for
which we are techically trained. The Health-care workers
need to understand their colleagues in other health-care
disciplines. They also need to know management
and
marketing - and to manage people, they need to
market their
services or ideas to colleagues or the public.
This also holds
true for any profession. The
SPC provides the platform for meeting and
exchanging ideas with different
professional disciplines.
Through the SPC, individual members
can tap into a
vast overseas network. With
the SPC, members have
a feedback channel to the government.
